Good morning!
Today will feature mostly cloudy skies – with breaks of sun at times – and highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s, and a south wind at 5 to 10 mph.
There will be a chance of strong to severe thunderstorms in the evening. Here is a quick breakdown, with potentially a more detailed post about the actual setup coming in the 1 to 3 PM timeframe.
Timing
Best chance 4 PM to midnight (though there will also be a chance of showers this morning, I do not expect any strong to severe thunderstorms before the evening.)
Hazards
Damaging winds and large hail are the main severe threats. Of course, you can also expect the run of the mill heavy rain and lightning. There is a very low risk of an isolated tornado, but this is not a major concern.
Threat Area
The best threat is in central and western Massachusetts into southwest New Hampshire and southern Vermont, but the rest of NH and interior eastern Massachusetts (north of the Mass Pike and outside of the I-95/Rt. 128 corridor) are also under the gun for a chance of severe storms.
Uncertainty
Instability is in question due to lots of clouds hanging around the area for much of the day. Even so,very marginal instability may be just enough in this particular case to spark a few storms (though storms would be more limited if we get more clouds than expected).
Safety
Keep an eye to the sky and to weather updates throughout the day. Be ready to move indoors at a moment’s notice; if you can hear thunder, you’re close enough to be struck by lightning. Pay special notice in particular to any warnings that get issued, as strong winds and hail could cause damage. Stay away from the windows during a severe storm.
Next Update
I will try to send out a post between 1 and 3 PM with an update that I will start during my study block and probably finish after school. I hope to get a little more technical in this update as well.
Thanks!
